Okay but can I just get emo over starwars for a moment? specifically one fight.

Anakin and Obi-wan’s fight in ROTS.

We all make fun of the “it’s over anakin! I have the high ground!” line but that entire battle was emotional and heart wrenching.

I remember watching it in theaters for the first time and when the music kicked in and they began to fight I had chills and couldn’t help but to hold my breath. My mother took me to see the movie multiple times and each time the audience would clap, people brought in sabers, and some kids would even go to the front stage under the screen and would try to reenact it.

I remember very clearly how people acted towards the prequels (and still do), but even cynics shut their mouths during order 66 until the end of the film.

I still tear up everytime I watch it and get to Obi’s “you were the chosen one” speech.

The thing is, RotS is a good story. The prequels as a whole are a good story. but none of the films in the SW franchise is perfect. However, because the original trilogy are all pieces of classic cinema they are looked at through the rose-colored glasses of nostalgia. Their flaws ignored while the prequels get criticized pretty badly. The prequels weren’t exactly what the whinny fanboys wanted, so they complained about them “ruining Star Wars”. Because negative voices are always louder, people started looking back and agreeing “The prequels suck”.

Even I, who am an avid lover of the prequels and most of all RotS, had fallen into that trap. I had seen the movies as a kid and while the political stuff had gone over my head I enjoyed the rest. However, they were not movies that my family owned so I really only had seen them the one time and being away from them and hearing the negative words about the prequels I fell into the mindset of agreeing “Yeah they kinda sucked…” and the kicker here is, when I was in college and had a little extra spending money there was a sale on the entire series of SW box set. I picked it up–only to ignore the prequels and only watch the OT until recently when my friends got me to start watching TCW and I fell in love. Only then did I take the plastic off the PT and pop them into our DVD player and boy, was I surprised as I realized that I never hated those movies. I remembered I love them. I remembered that it was never MY opinion that I hated them.

They are good stories with good characters that only “crime” was that they could have been told a little better in places to strengthen the story telling. But that doesn’t change the fact that it’s DEVASTATING to see nearly every single Jedi shot down and killed by their own men they trust with their lives. To see Obi-Wan and Anakin, who had been so close for years suddenly have to fight one another as enemies. To see how heartbroken it left Obi-Wan, how Anakin became Darth Vader, how they both suffered. The entire climax of RotS is so emotionally charged. Such a good set a scenes. And I think that the reason why people make fun of the line “It’s over, Anakin! I have the high ground!” is because that line is a little cheesy and the rest of the scene is so impactful they can’t complain about it. only cling to one line they find cheesy.
